16th/5th Queen\'s Royal Lancers (QRL) Anodised Cap Badge Maker Dowler 16th/5th Q.R.L. anodised aluminium cap badge make marked \'DOWLER BIRMINGHAM\'. VGC. The 16th/5th The Queen\'s Royal Lancers was a cavalry regiment of the British Army. It was formed by the amalgamation of the 16th The Queen\'s Lancers and the 5th Royal Irish Lancers in 1922. The reason for the uniquely atypical regimental title (with a higher number preceding a lower) was that the 5th had been re-raised in 1858 almost 60 years after being disbanded, and when re-raised took precedence after the 17th Lancers. After service in the Second World War and the Gulf War, the regiment amalgamated with the 17th/21st Lancers to form the Queen\'s Royal Lancers in 1993.

Came with an East Yorkshire (Yorks) brass shoulder title on \'electrical\' round shaped loops with backing plate and an unusual cross (French?) stylised pin (bent). So, I am keeping all together. The 17th (Northern) Division was created under Northern Command in September 1914, just a month after the British entry into the Great War, from men volunteering for Lord Kitchener\'s New Armies. Most of the volunteers had had little prior military experience. Worsening the situation was an acute lack of experienced officers and NCOs to train the new men. The division, commanded by Major General Walter Kenyon-Slaney, part of Kitchener\'s Second New Army (K2), concentrated throughout Dorset for training, moving to Hampshire in late May 1915. In early July the division sent advance parties to France in preparation for a move overseas, the rest of the division following a week later, moving to Saint-Omer for concentration. The Division was to remain on the Western Front for the rest of the war. Most of 1915 being spent in the southern sector of the Ypres Salient. The regiment was formed by the merger of the 28th Regiment with the 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot. c1903-1922 101st Grenadiers Regiment Indian Army Brass Shoulder Title 101st Grenadiers India cast brass metal with integral loops st, cWW1. VGC. The First World War began in August 1914, a war that pitted the British Empire, France and their Allies against Germany and its allies. During the conflict, the Regiment saw service in Africa and the Middle East. The 101st raised a 2nd Battalion in 1917 which saw service in Egypt; it was disbanded in 1921. The Regiment took part in operations in German East Africa from the beginning of the campaign there in November 1914. There, the British encountered a formidable opponent in the form of Paul Erich von Lettow-Vorbeck. The 101st took part in the initial landings and the Battle of Tanga. This was a German victory, that saw the British and Indian forces, including the 101st, sustain significant casualties that compelled them to retreat back to their ships. The 101st had however shown stubborn resistance when other units broke. In January 1915, a company of the 101st took part in the Battle of Jassin that saw both sides sustain heavy casualties which compelled von Lettow-Vorbeck to avoid pitched battles with the British forces. Due to this defeat, the British garrison in Jassin surrendered, after no relief force had arrived, with nearly 300 British and Indians troops taken prisoner, including the company of the 101st, but were subsequently released on parole with the pledge that they would have no further participation in the war. One company of the Regiment acted with the 5th Light Infantry in another attempt to capture Tanga in July 1916. The port—which had, for the most part, been abandoned—was, indeed, successfully captured. Some of von Lettow-Vorbeck\'s forces had remained to snipe at the Indian forces; these snipers proved to be quite a deadly nuisance that required intense patrolling to remove the threat. For the Regiment\'s involvement in the campaign it was awarded the Theatre Honour \"East Africa 1914–16\". The 101st later saw service in the Middle East in the Palestine theatre – this theatre was the second largest, in terms of troop numbers, after the Western Front. Their opposition was the Ottoman Empire that controlled Palestine, and was an ally of Germany. The Regiment took part in the attempts to capture the important port of Gaza and by the end of December 1917 the Allies were in control of much of Palestine, including the symbolic capture of Jerusalem. In July 1918 the Regiment took part in the Ghurabeh raid that saw intense fighting and over 100 Ottomans taken prisoner. The Regiment later took part in the Megiddo Offensive – the World War I equivalent of the German Blitzkrieg during World War II – and took part in the attempts to capture Nablus. The Ottomans signed an Armistice with the Allies on 30 October. The First World War finally ended on 11 November 1918 with the signing of the Armistice between the Allies and Germany. Soon after the war, the regiment deployed to British Somaliland, where operations against Hassan and his followers had resumed. The campaign, which encompassed the army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force, succeeded in defeating Hassan in 1920, after two decades of conflict. In accordance with the Indian Army reforms of 1922, the 101st amalgamated with five other regiments to form six battalions of the 4th Bombay Grenadiers; the 101st became the 1st Battalion of the new regiment.

c1941-45 The 13th Corps British Army Formation Sign WWII Badge XIII Corps Printed Patch unissued VGC. Ref: BoBD 2562. On 1 January 1941, while the Western Desert Force was fighting the Italian Tenth Army during Operation Compass, the \"13th Corps\", which included British 7th Armoured Division, Australian 6th Infantry Division and 4th Indian Infantry Division went into an initial attack. Matilda infantry tanks of the 7th Royal Tank Regiment along with the 11th Indian Brigade of the 4th Indian Division, exploited a hole in the Italian defensive positions and attacked the Nibiewa camp from the rear. The Maletti Group was destroyed and General Pietro Maletti was killed in action while trying to stop the sudden attack. By February 1941, Operation Compass was a complete victory. When Operation Compass came to an end with the surrender of the Italian Tenth Army, 13th Corps HQ was deactivated in February and its responsibilities taken over by HQ Cyrenaica, a static command. Allied forces in the Western Desert took a defensive posture as Middle East Command focused on the Battle of Greece. The Italian forces in North Africa were reinforced with the Afrika Corps. Axis forces, now commanded by Erwin Rommel, counterattacked. Lieutenant-General Philip Neame, the commander in Cyrenaica, was captured during Rommel\'s advance. 13th Corps was reactivated as Western Desert Force HQ on 14 April to take command of British and other Commonwealth forces (primarily Australian, Indian and New Zealand units) in the Western Desert. In August 1941 Archibald Wavell was replaced as C-in-C Middle East by Claude Auchinleck and the British and other Commonwealth forces were reinforced to create in September 1941 the British Eighth Army. During this reorganisation, Western Desert Force was once again redesignated as 13th Corps and became part of the new army. The Corps remained part of the Eighth Army throughout the rest of the North African Campaign, which finally ended in May 1943. Still part of the Eighth Army, 13th Corps, now under command of Miles C. Dempsey, then took part in the Allied invasion of Sicily in July 1943. By now it had the 5th and 50th Infantry divisions under command. Now with the 1st Canadian Infantry and 5th Infantry divisions, 13th Corps took part in the Allied invasion of Italy, executing Operation Baytown on 3 September 1943, part of the Italian Campaign. 13th Corps then fought as the right wing of the Eighth Army along the Adriatic coast until the end of 1943, participating in the Moro River Campaign. In May 1944, 13th Corps, now commanded by Sidney Kirkman, was shifted to the left-centre of the Allied front. During the Fourth Battle of Monte Cassino 13th Corps elements, composed of the British 6th Armoured Division, British 4th Infantry Division and 8th Indian Infantry Division with supporting fire from the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade, made a successful strongly opposed night crossing of the Garigliano and Rapido rivers, and broke into the heart of the German defences in the Liri valley. This victory was of enormous significance as it collapsed or bypassed the German defences of Gustav Line and led to the capture of Rome. On 17 August 1944, 13th Corps was transferred to the U.S. Fifth Army to become its right wing. Under the Fifth Army, 13th Corps, with British 6th Armoured Division, 6th South African Armoured Division, 8th Indian Infantry Division, British 1st Infantry Division and 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade under command, fought in the Apennine Mountains to break the Gothic Line. On 18 January 1945, 13th Corps returned to the Eighth Army. XIII Corps, commanded now by John Harding, was the left wing of Eighth Army in the Spring 1945 offensive in Italy, which ended in May 1945 with the surrender of Axis forces in Italy. 2nd New Zealand Division, operating with the corps, confronted Yugoslav troops at Trieste, entering and capturing the city. Under the authority of the National Defence Act, the program is administered by the Canadian Armed Forces and funded through the Department of National Defence. Additionally, the civilian partner of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, the Army Cadet League of Canada, also ensures financial, accommodations and transportation support for RCAC programs and services at a community level. Many Royal Canadian Army Cadet corps receive logistical assistance and administrative support from their affiliated Regular Force or Reserve Force unit. In 1942, in recognition of the significant contribution of former cadets to the ongoing war effort, His Majesty King George VI granted the \"Royal\" prefix to the Canada Army Cadets, giving it the title of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets.

The Royal Navy Beach Signals units were to provide communications between the beach and the offshore forces. Included in the units were men from the army and RAF. The Chindits, officially known as Long Range Penetration Groups, were Special Operations Units of the British and Indian armies which saw action in 1943–1944 during the Burma Campaign of World War II. Brigadier Orde Wingate formed them for long-range penetration Operations against the Imperial Japanese Army, especially attacking lines of communication deep behind Japanese lines. Their operations featured long marches through extremely difficult terrain, undertaken by underfed troops often weakened by diseases such as malaria and dysentery.
c1943-45 First Hussars Canada Printed Shoulder Title Cloth Badge Rare, in fantastic unissued condition First Hussars Canda shoulder title. Part of 2nd Bde they landed on D-day 6th June 1944. In December 1943, the First Hussars were introduced to \"Duplex Drive\" (DD for short) tanks. Initially the regiment was trained on the Valentine DD, until it was re-equipped with the M4A4 Sherman DD and Sherman Vc \"Firefly\" in April 1944. The DD tanks of the 1st Hussars were amongst the allied forces to come ashore in Normandy. The Hussars were to support the infantry landing on the western half of Juno Beach. At 07:15, 19 tanks of \'B\' Squadron launched their Sherman V DDs from their landing-craft into the English Channel some 4000 meters from shore of Nan Green Beach. Of \'B\' Squadron\'s 19 tanks, 15 made it to shore ahead of the Regina Rifles, whom they were tasked to support. \'A\' Squadron launched some of their DDs some ten minutes later than \'B\' Squadron, from approximately 1500 meters out and headed towards Mike Beach. Only two of the four LTCs carrying \'A\' Squadron were able to launch all their tanks off shore. Of \'A\' Squadron\'s 19 tanks, 10 were launched into the channel with seven of those making it to shore. Five tanks were landed directly onto the beach, and four were stranded on a landing craft which struck a mine. The tanks of \'A\' Squadron were to support the Winnipeg Rifles, who were already fighting on the beach when they came ashore. At the beach, many of tanks of the 1st Hussars stayed partially submerged just off shore in a hull down position. After dropping their screens, they began engaging the German antitank guns, machine-gun nests and other strong points, allowing the infantry to break the beach defences and make its way inland. \'A\' Squadron made its way inland to the village of Graye-sur-Mer where the Winnipeg Rifles were attempting to capture bridges over the Suelles River. \'B\' Squadron helped clear Courseulles-sur-Mer before breaking out into the countryside. At 08:20, \'C\' Squadron\'s Sherman Vc Fireflies and Sherman IIIs were landed directly onto Mike Red beach, along with the regimental Headquarters Squadron. By this time, resistance at the beach had been cleared. After clearing Courseulles-sur-Mer, The regiment made its way inland. South of Reviers, \'B\' Squadron encountered a German 88 which knocked out six tanks before being put out of action. Seven Hussar crewmen were killed in the engagement. Due to these losses,\'B\' squadron was pulled back to the beach after the encounter. As mentioned above, \'A\' Squadron moved on to Graye-sur-Mer where the Winnipeg Rifles were fighting to secure the village. \'A\' Squadron joined the fight in support of the Winnipegs, along with elements of \'C\' squadron who were catching up. After the village was captured, \'C\' Squadron pressed on, with 2nd Troop reaching the regiment\'s objective of the Caen-Bayeux Highway, becoming the only Allied unit to reach its D-Day objective. One survivor of D-Day said that \"A German soldier actually saluted us on our way to the objective. I guess he was surprised to see us this far inland\". However, 2nd troop had to pull back, as they were too far ahead of the rest of the force and too few to hold the objective. At dusk, the regiment pulled back to the channel to rest. the 1st Hussars suffered 21 killed, 17 wounded during the actions of D-Day. \'A\' Squadron was left with 9 tanks at the end of the day and \'B\' Squadron was reduced to 4 tanks. After D-Day, the 1st Hussars continued to support infantry as it advanced and faced German counter-attacks. On 9 June, the Hussars supported the Canadian Scottish as they re-took Putot-en-Bessin and engaged Panthers of the 1st Battalion, SS-Panzer Regiment 12 (of the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend), destroying 6. Battle of Le Mesnil-Patryedit Main article: Battle of Le Mesnil-Patry On the afternoon of Sunday, 11 June, \'B\' Squadron of the 1st Hussars was decimated during an abortive attack with The Queen\'s Own Rifles of Canada on the hamlet of Le Mesnil Patry, North-West of Caen. Panzergrenadiers, pioneers and tanks of the 12th SS Panzer Division were able to ambush the tanks of \'B\' Squadron in part due to intelligence gleaned from the Hussar\'s own radio traffic after capturing wireless codes from a destroyed Canadian tank on 9 June. Using Panzerfausts, Panzerschrecks and anti-tank guns, the German forces were able destroy 51 Shermans, and inflict 61 killed or missing, 2 wounded and 11 captured on the 1st Hussars. The Queen\'s Own Rifles suffered 55 killed, 33 wounded and 11 taken prisoner during the attack. The attack is remembered as \"The Black Day\", \"Black Sunday\" and the \"Black Sabbath\" within the Regiment. It accounted for roughly one third of the 1st Hussars\' dead over the entire war.

c1944 \'Minty\' Rare Pair of Early Red \'Desert Rats\' 7th Armoured Division Formation Sign Badges Rare, cJan 44 early red uncut pr of \'Desert Rats\' (Jerboas). Mint condition. In November 1943, the division left Italy for the United Kingdom, with the last units arriving on 7 January 1944. The division was re-equipped with the new Cromwell cruiser tanks and in April and May received 36 Sherman Vc Fireflies. Each troop now had three 75 mm gun Cromwells and a 17-pounder gun Firefly. The Desert Rats were the only British armoured division to use the Cromwell as their main battle tank. Major-General Gerald Lloyd-Verney, GOC 7th Armoured Division, enters Ghent in his Staghound armoured car, 8 September 1944. The 22nd Armoured Brigade embarked on 4 June, and most of the division landed on Gold Beach by the end of 7 June, a day after the initial landings.5861 7th Armoured initially took part in Operation Perch and Operation Goodwood, two operations that formed part of the Battle for Caen. During Perch, the division was to spearhead one arm of a pincer attack to capture the city. Due to a change in plan, elements of the division engaged tanks of the Panzer-Lehr-Division and the Heavy SS-Panzer Battalion 101 in the Battle of Villers-Bocage and were repulsed.62 Following the capture of Caen, the division took part in Operation Spring, which was intended to keep the German forces pinned to the British front away from the Americans who were launching Operation Cobra, and then Operation Bluecoat, an attack to support the American break-out and intercept German reinforcements moving to stop it. After the Battle of the Falaise Gap, which saw most of the German Army in Normandy destroyed, the 7th Armoured Division then took part in the Allied advance from Paris to the Rhine.63 The division\'s performance in Normandy and the rest of France has been called into question and it has been claimed they did not match those of its earlier campaigns. In early August 1944, Major General George Erskine, who had commanded the division since January 1943, Brigadier William Hinde, commanding the 22nd Armoured Brigade, and up to 100 other officers of the division were removed from their positions and reassigned. Erskine was replaced as GOC by Major General Gerald Lloyd-Verney. Historians largely agree that this was a consequence of the \"failure\" at Villers-Bocage and had been planned since that battle.

(2nd Phase) cloth \'flock\' rubber backed shoulder title for Battle Dress. VGC. New perceived threats to Britain during the ‘Cold War’ period, particularly the Berlin Blockade in 1948, added impetus to these discussions, which included the possibility of reviving the Home Guards as a defence against air landings (just as before), to help the police in controlling civil unrest and dealing with a possible communist inspired ‘Fifth Column’. The start of the Korean War signalled a further communist expansion and more discussion. However, it was the return to power of Winston Churchill in 1951 that actually brought about the re-formation of the Home Guard. The consequential Home Guard Act of December 1951 required volunteers to sign on for two years, and undertake a minimum of 15 hours training every three months. Recruiting was very much slower than in 1940 and most units did not reach the size envisaged. The new force reverted to reserve status in April 1956 and ceased to exist in the July of that year.

c1980s 6 Field Force Headquarters Printed Cloth Formation Sign Badge 6 Field Force printed yellow Pegasus on blue Background Cloth Formation Sign patch. Facing right as worn by HQ Personnel. Removed from uniform neatly. 6 Field Force was formed on 1 April 1977 in Aldershot on the re-designation of 16 Parachute Brigade to provide the United Kingdom Mobile Force (UKMF) role previously held by 3 Division which had been moved to Germany to become an armoured Division under the Army Restructuring Plan 1975. 6 Field Force was a UK based regular army and TAVR strategic reserve to move immediately to Germany to reinforce British Army of the Rhine BAOR in Denmark or Northern Italy in the event of war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. HQ 16th Parachute Brigade and 216 Parachute Signal Squadron amalgamated on 1 April 1977 to form the new integrated 6th Field Force HQ and Signal Squadron. 6th Field Force retained a parachute battalion group with a limited airborne role to provide a rapid intervention force known as 6 Field Force Parachute Contingency Force of initially one parachute battalion in 1977 and then two by 1981. One of the three regular army para battalions was always deployed to Northern Ireland on rotation and 3 Para was assigned to 5 Field Force and 7 Field Force. 6 Field Force was allocated 1 Para 1977 to April 1978 and 2 Para March 1981 until being reassigned to the new 5 Infantry Brigade in 1982. The three TA parachute battalions were not permanently assigned to 6 Field Force until the event of war. 6 Field Force had supporting arms including artillery guided weapons armoured recce 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers AAC squadron transport squadron 6 Field Force Ordnance Company 81 and 82 Airborne Ord Companies field workshop 6 Field Force Ambulance from Parachute Clearing Troop PCT and 16 Field Ambulance and a provost company. With these changes many previously elite Airborne Corps and Supporting Arms units lost their parachute capability and the coveted red beret. When the Task Force Field Force concept was developed in 1976 it was assumed that advances in communications technology would allow more than just the traditional 3-4 battle groups to be controlled by a single Brigade headquarters. However it was discovered that the advances in technology did not increase speed of decision-making on the part of the Brigadier and as a consequence the Field Forces were converted back into Infantry Brigades in 1982. 6 Field Force was duly disbanded on being reorganised and renamed 5 Infantry Brigade. The Formation Sign facing right was worn right arm by HQ staff and facing left version was worn on the left arm by assigned Battalions and Support Units.

HMS Royal Sovereign WW1 WW2 Royal Navy Tie Pin Sweetheart Badge Lovely, His Majesty\'s Ship (H.M.S) Royal Sovereign gilt and enamel tie pin, straight bar sweetheart pin. VGC. HMS Royal Sovereign (pennant number 05) was a Revenge-class (also known as Royal Sovereign and R-class) battleship of the Royal Navy displacing 29,970 long tons (30,451 t) and armed with eight 15-inch (381 mm) guns in four twin-gun turrets. She was laid down in January 1914 and launched in April 1915; she was completed in May 1916, but was not ready for service in time to participate in the Battle of Jutland at the end of the month. She served with the Grand Fleet for the remainder of the First World War, but did not see action. In the early 1930s, she was assigned to the Mediterranean Fleet and based in Malta. Unlike the Queen Elizabeth-class battleships, Royal Sovereign and her sisters were not modernised during the interwar period. Only minor alterations to her anti-aircraft battery were effected before the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939. Assigned to the Home Fleet, the ship was tasked with convoy protection until May 1940, when she returned to the Mediterranean Fleet. Royal Sovereign was present during the Battle of Calabria in July 1940, but her slow speed prevented her from engaging the Italian battleships. By March 1942, she was assigned to the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean, but after the Indian Ocean raid by Admiral Nagumo\'s Kido Butai, the ship was withdrawn to eastern Africa to escort convoys. In January 1944, she returned to Britain, and in May the Royal Navy transferred Royal Sovereign to the Soviet Navy, which renamed her Arkhangelsk. She then escorted Arctic convoys into Kola until the end of the war. The Soviets returned the ship in 1949, after which she was broken up for scrap.
