1822 Pattern Victorian Infantry Officers Sword In Leather Scabbard. (EW.04b) Overall length 38.1/2in, blade length 32.1/4in. The steel blade has extensive signs of sword strikes/ action particularly to the lower 2/3 of the blade. The whole to a dull speckled shy grey patina with the odd finger acad black old rust marks here and there. the rocasso at the hilt is also etched besides the VR cipher "Parfitt Roberts London & Cambridge". The fold-down section of the knuckle guard is present and works well but the guard has lost most of its original gilt finish and is slightly mis-shapen. The original shagreen grip and copper wire binging is present with a slight loss of shagreen towards the blade section. The original brown leather scabbard (treated with Pecard) is present witha weakened section towards the lower brass chape (due to careless horizontal; rather than vertical withdrawl of the sword. Again, most of the original gilt finish is missing from the brass scabbard fittings. A victorian infantry officers sword that appears to have seen combat that is complete and in reasonable overall condition for its age. 1844 Pattern Enfield Cavalry Carbine (Captured/ Re-Captured In The India Mutiny?). (AD.04b) .65 bore 1844 Pat. Enfield percussion native issue smooth-bore service carbine. Overall length 42.1/2in., barrel 26.1/2in., Fullstocked with regulation brass mounts, barrel swivels now absent. Lock plate pitted, but crown VR cipher deliberately arased and overwritten with Indian writing as is the breach and brass butt-plate. The barrel with some pitting particularly towards the mussel on the one side and the Birmingham proof marks at the breach worn. The barrel and other metal fittings to a pleasing grey/ brown patina. Captive stirrup ramrod rod cracked towards breech. The stock with a pinned repair behind the lock, two old filled repairs to one side and two splits near the brech by the barrel retaining key. It would appear that this carbine has been captured or used by a mutineer and in turn has been recaptured - if only it could talk ... ! Reasonable overall condition commensurate with age. Additional information and photographs on request As a 100+ year old obsolete calibre, antique firearm no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. British 1856 Enfield Artillery Bayonet In Scabbard (AD.08a) British 1856 Enfield Artillery Bayonet In Scabbard. Made between 1856 and 1878 these are typically British with pressed-leather grips, cock's-comb upper finial and a lower button finial. This type of bayonet fitted over the muzzle-ring over the barrel muzzle and fastened the pommel to a bar (lug) on the barrel or to a lug on a steel band and our featured bayonet fitted to a bar on the barrel. The bayonet's furniture is of steel; the latch is of external spring-steel with a push-button and the grips are of black pressed-leather. Such bayonets were intended to fit the .577" caliber Enfield 2-band Rifled Infantry Short-Musket. Overall length 28.1/4in, blade length is about 22.3/4in and the internal muzzle ring diameter is ~7/8in. The scabbards is of black leather with steel furniture throat and chape. This type of bayonet were popular with Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. This particular example is full-length with "FH" in a circular cartouche toward the hilt on one side of the blade. The blade has a grey speckled patina and vitually un-pitted although with a few very slight dings to the edge near the tip. The steel cross-guard, muzzle ring, pommel, release spring and scabbard fittings to a dark smoky brown coloured patina and is mostly smooth metal with only some scattered patches of minor pitting and surface rust spots, aliitle more pitting to the scabbard steel fittings. The original locking spring in the grip works well. The two-piece pressed leather grips are in good condition with no shrinkage and about 80% of their original finish. The grips still have the majority of their roll embossed knurling and only some light wear/ minor scuffs. The grips are much nicer than they are normally encountered on a bayonet of this pattern. The Leather scabbard has dried/ shrunk over time (now treated with Pecard) so that a careless previous owner has pierced the end chape with the bayonet tip (a common feature of carelessly treated old bayonet scabbards). The scabbard has a few creases and bows in it but in good overall condition as is its rear stitching. This is a relatively good example of a scarce British bayonet and in good condition for its age. GROOM/STICK PAPER CLEANER - 100g packs GROOM/STICK - A UNIQUE NON-ABRASIVE PAPER CLEANER Permanently tacky rubber;"ever-lasting" non abrasive cleaner for paper and many surfaces. pH Neutral. GROOM/STICK is a novel form of natural rubber with specific properties combining to create a surface dry-cleaner of high efficiency. The rubber's natural structure has been modified to make it permanently soft, kneadable and strongly tacky. Moisture, solvents and chemical additives have been excluded. As a non-abrasive, non-staining cleaner of paper and other library materials, Groom/stick gently but positively picks up a wide range of foreign matter. Graphite, carbon, charcoal, chalk, crayon, dry powder colours, mould spores, dust, dirt and grease are cleanly lifted off the surface and held in a 'molecular trap' from which there is no escape! The process is fast and smear-free. It is demonstrated by lightly rolling a Groom/stick 'cigar' across a freshly-printed newspaper. Excess print ink is removed instantly - without blurring the print or soiling adjacent clean areas. Ordinary solid or granular rubber/resin erasers abrade, smudge, crumble or produce clinging debris. Groom/stick sacrifices nothing of itself, leaves no dirty fragments to brush away (or mould spores to regenerate in concealed areas) and is always ready and clean to use.

M-35 Single Decal Wehrmacht Helmet And Goggles. (NA.03b) M-35 helmet with rolled rim, the paintwork to the helmet seems to be original and the single Werhrmacht eagle over swastika decal is still visible although it has probably had attempted removal as per 1942 order and there is some loss of the original paint finish to the external part of the helmet in places. The liner is in dry and worn condition but is original with its original aluminium liner rim. The chinstrap is broken off below the rivets where the helmet must have lain for many years with only remnants still attached. Although this is clearly an original helmet I cannot see any helmets stamps? Included are a pair of clear plastic lensed goggles with grey rubber surrounds. The surrounds have suffered slight crease damage to one lens, the rubber is dry and cracked around the nose and the goggle strap cconnectors are rusty which in turn has rust-stained the straps. PECARD Leather Dressing - 6 fl oz (US) (0.18 litre) Tub (also avilable in 16 fl oz (US) (0.48 litre). 32 fl oz (US) (0.96 litre) - please contact us for details and prices) Restore, Revitalise, Rejuvenate - Leather Care for Antique Leather Antique Leather Dressing from Pecard USA Pecard Leather Dressing - Trademark Registered 1915. We are proud to offer Pecard Antique Leather Dressing for sale - this is an antique leather treatment which, we think, is better than anything else on the market, at any price. We can ship worldwide to all destinations outside of North America. Pecard Leather Dressing is a safe, clean, leather care product which will help with restoration, revitalisation, rejuvenation, waterproofing and also cosmetically enhance the valuable leather items in any collection - whether it be militaria or whips. Pecard will soften and revitalise old leather, giving it a lasting suppleness and a shine that can be gently buffed (on non-flaking surfaces only), it will also greatly slow the further deterioration of articles that have areas which are cracking or flaking. Pecard Leather Dressing cannot perform miracles - so it won't restore deterioration that has resulted from lack of care and inappropriate treatment over the years; although, having said that, it can work wonders and revitalise any leather, old or new - why not try it and see for yourself? Leather Dressing from Pecard is ideal for the care of all fine leather goods. Pecard Leather Dressing, manufactured in Wisconsin, USA, since 1902, is the unrecognized jewel among the many leather dressings on the market. It is based on a petroleum lubricant similar to vaseline, with additions of selected waxes including beeswax. It is a dressing which penetrates the leather, allows the fibres to bend and move without chafing and breaking, coats the fibres to inhibit oxidation, and helps maintain a desirable level of moisture in the leather. It is chemically neutral, carrying neither salts nor harsh solvents, and does not decompose to form damaging chemicals. With low volatility it is long lasting. It is an economical dressing - there are no volatile carrier agents such as water or kerosene to dilute the lubricant. Pecard Leather Dressing is the dressing used by the knowledgeable collectors of leather items and museum conservators. We offer Pecard Leather Dressing in three convenient tub sizes: 6 fl oz (US) (0.18 litre). 16 fl oz (US) (0.48 litre). 32 fl oz (US) (0.96 litre). Why not Neatsfoot Oil? The majority of leather dressings are based on tallow or neatsfoot oil. Tallow, even kidney fat, contains salts which build up with repeated dressing and attack the leather fibres. Neatsfoot oil compounds, long recognized for damage to sewing, also weaken and blacken the leather. Both these animal fats provide a culture for the growth of bacteria and fungus, and turn rancid, resulting in further attack on the leather. The more liquid formulations also evaporate quickly, leaving the leather dry and open to rapid deterioration by oxidation and mechanical break down. The appropriate treatment of a leather item depends upon its condition, or the degree of deterioration when treatment is started. Leather deteriorates largely by four means: Oxidation is most readily seen in very old dry leather, with surface cracking and flaking, and over-all weakness. Oxidation will eventually turn leather to dust. It is inhibited by a thorough impregnation with an inert dressing which coats the fibres. Leather items should not be sealed in a display case and forgotten - they must be kept full of dressing. Chemical damage can be through the effect of ultraviolet light, ozone, acid from sulphurous and nitrous pollutants in the air, or through chemical action following treatment with tallow or neatsfoot oil compounds. Both oxidation and chemical damage occur faster at higher temperatures. Leather should be stored away from heat, and not needlessly exposed to sunlight. Internal chafing or breaking of fibres occurs when dry leather is flexed. A lubricant is essential to allow the fibres to slide one against the other. Dry leather should not be flexed prior to thorough lubrication. Abrasion can be external, from rubbing on the outside, or internal from dirt particles ground into the leather. The First Treatment Use your fingers (Pecard Leather Dressing is clean to use and nearly odourless), to apply the paste to all surfaces of the leather item. Take care to avoid any non-leather areas. Place the item on a non-absorbent surface, at room temperature, for a few days until Pecard gently softens old fibres. NEVER artificially heat leather or set old leather in the sun. If the paste is completely absorbed, reapply a lighter coat and wait another day. When the paste remains on the surface, wipe it off with a clean, lint free cloth. Buff with a soft shoe brush and watch the leather GLOW with life. If the leather surface is not flaking, buff with a lint free cloth for a higher, sleeker shine. Subsequent Treatments Antique leather in dry climates will require more frequent re-treatment with Leather Dressing - approximately every 4 to 6 months. For less dry climates, a 6 to 8 month schedule is adequate. In either case, a lighter application may be made and the period for absorption will be shorter. A whitening of the surface of some treated leather can occur if the temperature drops low enough to harden the heavier oil in the leather treatment. Do not worry, this is totally harmless - the residue can be wiped off with a soft, absorbent rag, or gently buffed off with a soft shoe brush. For dirty, but smooth-surfaced antique leather, use saddle soap applied with a shaving brush for a soft foaming action, then gently wipe with a clean, moist sponge. After a short drying period, apply the Leather Dressing to your clean leather article. Despite the gentle nature of this procedure, flaking leather will continue to flake during this cleaning process. Leather Ageing and Colour Change Pecard is colourless and adds no colour to leather. However, tanning, heat, dry air, wetting and drying, sunlight (ultraviolet rays), constant humidity, bacteria, stress and salts from the body, can cause a piece of leather treated with Pecard to slightly change colour. Pecard restores life to leather and gives it a healthy glow, halting fibre breakdown due to dryness. Pecard can prevent further damage to already damaged leather products and keep new leather products beautiful. New leather contains certain oils for suppleness. The fibre bundles are long and strong, as oils dry out, these bundles stiffen and break. The fibre bundles require neutral moisture and lubrication - both of which are safely provided by Pecard Leather Dressing. The density of Pecard ensures that, once leather absorbs its needs, further treatment will not be required for some time. Leather Dressing for Old Saddles Preparation This procedure describes the restoration of an American saddle, but the same process can be applied to any leather saddle. Since it's usually necessary to dismantle a saddle before restoration, follow these guidelines: If you want to save the strings, first wet, or lubricate, them - this makes the strings easier to undo and allows easier removal of the jockeys and skirts. A quicker method is to cut them beneath the rosettes and replace the strings. The dismantling of a saddle to clean, lubricate and restore is a simple process. Sometimes it is difficult to remove the cantle and pommel covers, but often it is not necessary. Don't use too much force when removing brads, nails, or screws which hold the leather to the tree. Rough handling can result in rips or tears. After the jockeys are off, remove the skirts, stirrup leathers and attached fenders. The Restoration An important part of restoring is cleaning. Use warm water and soap (we recommend a pH balanced cleaner such as Lexol's pH Cleaner in the orange bottle). Use a soft nylon bristled brush to soften the leather, loosen grime, grease, grit; it will also rinse traces of sweat, urine and manure. Always keep the leather wet; this prevents sloughing off the top grain of old, dry leather. Rinse the leather several times. Once the leather is clean, dry it until it's slightly moist. Then press, straighten, form and condition. Use Antique Leather Dressing for all the surface and flat items - coat leather at least three times. Leave each coat to stand a few days, allowing nature to take its course. Rub off any excess. While the saddle is dismantled, wash the tree and give the rawhide covering a light coat of Leather dressing. If the sheep lining is fine, don't remove it. Otherwise, remove it and apply a light coat of Dressing to the flesh side. In dry climates saddles should be conditioned approximately every four to six months. For more humid climates, a six to eight month schedule is adequate. Leather Dressing for Reptile Skins Snakeskin Items made from Snakeskin are not so common in the UK, however we include this description for reference, just in case you have an old pair of Snakeskin Boots! Reptile skins have special care and preservation needs. Pecard Leather Dressing gives long life and beauty to these costly materials. Because boots are used on the ground where it is hotter, dirtier and drier, regularly wipe, or wash, boots then pat dry. Apply a conditioner and allow it to penetrate before wiping away the excess.Although reptile skins are generally non-porous and resist most conditioners, Pecard uniquely clings and penetrates reptile skin. Pecard combines its excellent lubrication and consistency to work between the layers of snakeskin. Pecard adheres to the surface, providing long-term moisturisation, lubrication and waterproofing, as well as greatly enhancing the colour and feel of snakeskin boots. Leather Dressing - Do's & Don'ts Do leave all fixings, such as zips, poppers, studs, and buttons, unfastened. Loosen any similar stress points. These areas, even when treated, are prone to tear and can never be fully repaired. Don't display, or place, your antique leather near a heat source, or in direct sunlight (ultraviolet rays actually "cook" leather fibres). display with any sharp bends, or creases, in the material, hang leather over sharp objects, such as nails, wires, hooks, or dowels. Hang a hard-to-display items over a large-diameter roller, or similar object with a curved section. Leather Dressing - Frequently Asked Questions These are some of the questions that we are asked most often! What is Pecard made from and why is it so effective in reviving antique leather? How do I apply Pecard leather dressing? How often should I re-apply Pecard Antique Leather Dressing? Can I speed up the drying process if I place my A2 Jacket near a heat source after treatment? I have noticed after treatment a white film sometimes appears on my vintage saddle – particularly when it is cold. Why is this and how can I remove it? Why is Pecard different from other commercial leather dressings available on the market? Can Pecard only be used on vintage leathers? How long should I leave Pecard on before polishing? The strap on my great grandad’s rifle, which he used in WWI, is brittle, cracked and starting to fall apart. Will Pecard Leather Dressing restore it to its original condition? What size tubs of Pecard Leather Dressing do you supply? Does Pecard Leather Dressing have a shelf life, as I can’t see a “use by date” printed on my tub? Will Pecard change the colour of my vintage leather map case which was used in the Boer War? I have a WW2 Irvin jacket. I talk to collectors in the States who swear by Pecard for horsehide, steerhide and goatskin, but what about shearling/ sheepskin? I'm restoring a vintage WWII flying helmet and oxygen mask for display in a museum. Can you recommend Pecard Antique Leather Dressing for renovating and feeding the very dry leather helmet? Also, the rubber components of the oxygen mask and tube are rather brittle, showing signs of cracking. Can you recommend a product that may halt further degradation under display conditions? I want to use Pecard Leather Dressing on an old leather suitcase that I found in the loft - it is very old, and quite dusty in places - I've been told that I should clean it with Saddle Soap before putting the Pecard dressing on it - is this correct? What is Pecard made from and why is it so effective in reviving antique leather? Pecard is made from a food grade petroleum base, combined with a blend of natural waxes including bees wax. This formula of natural ingredients softens and feeds the leather; prevents further hardening and cracking; resists most acids, and repels water – whilst still allowing the leather to breathe. How do I apply Pecard leather dressing? Apply with a lint free cloth or, for best results, use fingers to work well into the leather. Take care to keep away from non-leather parts of the item. When Pecard is well worked in, leave on a non-absorbent surface until fully absorbed – often 2-3 days. Allow to dry at room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Re-apply second coat and wait another day. Repeat until item will not absorb any more. Brush with lint free cloth, or clean shoe brush if a shiny finish desired. How often should I re-apply Pecard Antique Leather Dressing? Depends on the item, usage and storage conditions. In dry climates, every 4-6 months is fine. In humid conditions, say 6-8 months. If the item is frequently used, treat a little more often – if it seems to be drying out it’s time for a feed! Can I speed up the drying process if I place my A2 Jacket near a heat source after treatment? No! For Pecard to work properly, always allow your jacket to dry naturally, out of direct sunlight, at room temperature. I have noticed after treatment a white film sometimes appears on my vintage saddle – particularly when it is cold. Why is this, and how can I remove it? Low temperatures cause this reaction. The natural oils in the dressing harden, resulting in the white/opaque film. This can simply be rubbed off with an absorbent cloth or shoe brush and it will not effect or damage the saddle in any way. Why is Pecard different from other commercial leather dressings available on the market? Pecard Antique Leather Dressing has been in production since 1902 – so the guys in Wisconsin have had time to perfect their product! While the actual formula is a closely guarded secret, it is based on a vegetable grade lubricant similar to Vaseline with the addition of various natural waxes including bees wax. Pecard works by penetrating the leather and allows the fibres to bend and flex without chaffing and breaking. It also coats the fibres to inhibit further oxidation and maintains the moisture level within the leather. Sounds too good to be true? Try it and prove the performance for yourself! Can Pecard only be used on vintage leathers? Pecard Leather Dressing is designed specifically for antique leathers but is equally effective when used on modern leather. An application every 6 months will maintain the lubrication put in by the tannery and will keep the leather flexible. How long should I leave Pecard on before polishing? Allow Pecard time to do its magic! It is chemically neutral and contains no solvents and does not decompose to form damaging chemicals. In order to obtain the maximum benefit from the treatment, allow several days, or perhaps a week, for full penetration of the leather to be achieved. The strap on my great grandad’s rifle, which he used in WWI, is brittle, cracked and starting to fall apart. Will Pecard Leather Dressing restore it to its original condition? No! Pecard is a great product – but it cannot work miracles – you need Harry Potter for that! One of the main enemies of antique leather is oxidation and chemical damage. Their combined effects will eventually turn the leather to dust. Pecard will inhibit further oxidation and correct the moisture levels in the strap, so preventing further deterioration, but it cannot reverse the existing damage. What size tubs of Pecard Leather Dressing do you supply? We try and have in stock 3 tub sizes. The smallest PLD-6 is 6 fl oz (US) (0.18 litre), the standard size PLD-16 is 16 fl oz (US) (0.48 litre), and the choice of the professional is PLD-32 at 32 fl oz (US) (0.96 litre). Pecard goes a surprisingly long way, so given its performance it represents great value for money – but don’t just take our word for it, try a tub and prove it for yourself! Does Pecard Antique Dressing have a shelf life, as I can’t see a "use by date" printed on my tub? No! Pecard is basically inert. All we ask is you keep the lid firmly on the tub when not in use to prevent foreign materials polluting the dressing. We recommend you store the product in a cool place, out of direct sunlight. Will Pecard change the colour of my vintage leather map case which was used in the Boer War? Pecard is colourless and adds no colour to the leather. However, tanning, heat, dry air, wetting or drying, ultra violet rays, high humidity, bacteria, stress, abrasions and salts from the body can cause leather treated by Pecard to slightly change in colour. We recommend, therefore, you test on a small trial area to make sure you are happy with the effect, before you carry out the complete application. I have a WW2 Irvin jacket. I talk to collectors in the States who swear by Pecard for horsehide, steerhide and goatskin, but what about shearling/sheepskin? Geoff Pringle, of Oldnautibits, says: "I've been collecting Irvins for the last 20 years. Pecard has always been my dressing of choice, I rate it as being the best on the market for vintage leather - that includes Irvin and B-3 jackets made from shearling. I've had 'hopeless' cases which, after a couple of treatments, are absolutely transformed." Geoff's article about the Maintenance of Vintage Leather provides more information on this subject. We shudder when we see the state of historical Irvin's, and associated historical flying kit, in some Museum displays! We can certainly recommend Pecard for vintage leather flying clothing. We apply it with our fingers (although you can use a soft cloth or brush), and then work it well into the leather. We then let it absorb naturally; this can take up to a week, depending on how dry the leather is, and the storage conditions. The leather surface can be slightly sticky during this process, but it is definitely worth the wait! Be careful to keep the Pecard dressing away from the rubber parts of flying helmets and the zips and the cloth sections of jackets. On the supplementary query relating to the rubber of oxygen masks and tubes; this is a question we often get asked. We don't know which mask you refer to, but we find RAF WWII 'G' pattern are the most prone to the dangers of rubber fatigue, whereas patterns 'E' and 'E*' seem to have a more stable rubber mix. We haven't used it ourselves, but we have customers who apply a thin coat of 'Armor All' to seal the rubber and protect it from UV rays. 'Armor All' is manufactured for use on synthetic car dashboards, so it tends to result in a slightly gloss finish, but we are told it does a good job in sealing the rubber and prevents further degradation. The 'Armor All' website is www.armorall.co.uk We always stress that, when trying a new treatment, you carry out a test application on a small section first. This way you can make sure that it doesn't adversely affect the item, and that you're happy with the result. While working on the rubber, we recommend minimum handling and the wearing of clean cotton gloves. We hope this information is of some assistance, and good luck with your restoration work! I want to use Pecard Leather Dressing on an old leather suitcase that I found in the loft - it is very old, and quite dusty in places - I've been told that I should clean it with Saddle Soap before putting the Pecard dressing on it - is this correct? We would suggest using a soft cloth, or sponge, with warm water to wipe down the leather before using Pecard. Keep rinsing the cloth while wiping - when it runs clean, apply Pecard before the leather is totally dry. The water will evaporate from the leather and the oils in the dressing will be drawn in. The choice is simple - treat and save the article with PECARD LEATHER DRESSING.

Leather Aging and Colour Change Pecard is colourless and adds no colour to leather. PRE-LIM SURFACE CLEANER - 200ml TIN PRE-LIM SURFACE CLEANER Gently abrasive paste for non-scratch cleaning of metals and many sensitive fine-art surfaces.(also avilable in 65ml - please contact us for details and prices) Pre-lim is widely used in the professional restoration of arms and armour, sculpture, brass and copper exhibition cookware, ceramics and automobile paintwork. Formulation is based on blended Neuburg silica chalks in a water/ white spirit emulsion. In normal use the product is not a health hazard. Pre-lim's cleaning/ burnishing action is achieved with extremely fine control using a soft rag and light pressure. After a few minutes of air-drying, residual chalky deposit is easily rubbed away with a clean rag, leaving surfaces dry and silk-smooth. To ensure that cleaned surfaces, especially metals, remain clean and bright, protect them with our glass-clear Renaissance micro-crystalline wax polish for a long lasting and visually-enhancing finish. When stored in its air-tight container at room temperature or colder, Pre-lim has an excellent shelf life. As is customary in professional restoration, a discreet test is advised to ensure that PRE-lim is suitable for specific projects.

RENAISSANCE METAL DE-CORRODER - 1 LITRE PACKS RENAISSANCE METAL DE-CORRODER Safe, Non-toxic System for Rust Removal with Full Control Amine complex of hydro-oxycarboxilic acid in aqueous solution. pH: approximately 4.0. SCOPE: Iron, bronze, copper and copper alloys, brass, steel, zinc, and galvanised materials. Also effectively cleans SCALE and rusty water stains. Treatment selectively ruptures the bond between base metal and corrosion layer, reducing rust to a sludge which is easily wiped or brushed away. Clean-water rinse stops the process. Even relatively prolonged immersion over several days has no significant effect on sound metal, thus giving the conservator complete control over the process - and freedom from it. The totally benign nature of the product eliminates work and health hazards associated with common de-rusting systems such as those based on phosphoric and hydrochloric acids. Gloves, masks or protective clothing are not required; normal ventilation and common-sense hygiene procedures should be observed. Following treatment, metal surfaces are stabilised for up to 14 days, giving ample time for applying long-term protection (such as Renaissance micro-crystalline wax polish, which confers a tough - but reversible - glass clear lustrous finish). Bi-metallic electrolytic effects between dissimilar metals are insignificant in treatment periods of up to 48 hours. There is no attack on zinc coatings, exceptionally greatly prolonged immersion. Treatmentis most effective at temperatures between 10 deg.C and 20 deg.C. Colder solutions slow the action still further - a useful quality when objects are left immersed over a weekend. Contrast this safe, gentle handling of metals with the more vigorous, often deleterious action of mineral acids. Loose rust or scale should be wire-brushed and surfaces de-greased to allow optimum performance. Immersed objects will be clear of light corrosion in as little as two minutes. During longer immersion for heavier rusting, periodic checks can be made by rubbing the object with a finger. Brushing speeds the process. Storage and treatment vessels of mild steel, porcelain, rubber, polythene or other plastics are suitable. Galvanised, tin, zinc, or lead-lined tanks are NOT suitable. After use of the solution, separate it from any sediment by siphoning into a clean container and top up occasionally with fresh solution. The product remains effective for many weeks.
RENAISSANCE WAX / POLISH - 200ml TIN RENAISSANCE WAX / POLISH - 200ml TIN (also avilable in 65ml and 3-litre cans - please contact us for details and prices) An extra-ordinary wax / polish. Restore, refresh and protect your military antiques, furniture, precious metals, cutlery, armour, photography, antiques, art etc... It''s uses are endless. The 1st choice of museums, galleries, professionals and collectors worldwide. Renaissance wax polish was originally formulated in the British Museum reseach laboratories in the early 1950's, in response to a discussion amongst museum technicians at an international conference on fine-art conference In accelerated ageing tests, the British Museum scientists found that all current commercial waxws based on the usual natural waxes (beeswax and carnauba wax) contained acids which, in time, could spoil original finishes on national historic collections of furniture. He rejected them all and investigated the new so-called 'fossil' or micro-crystalline waxes being refined out of crude oil. With their distinct characteristics depending on their geographical origins, the new 'man-made' waxes could be accurately blended to meet the needs of many industries, from cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to heavy engineering. Thus, the waxes combined Nature's best qualities with the advantages of modern technology. The blend which emerged from that research was 'designed' for long-term protection of all classes of museum exhibits. At last, museum technicians and others caring for important collections could use wax polish that neither caused future conservation problems nor detracted from the intrinsic values of their treasures. Commercial production and distribution of the polish was ultimately undertaken in 1968 by the London-based company Picreator Enterprises Ltd, under its trade name 'Renaissance'. The product was quickly accepted in the international museum world and has become a universally respected standard conservation material - probably the most widely specified because of its almost unlimited uses. What makes Renaissance Wax so different? It has a crystalline structure much finer than totally natural waxes, a property that confers a highly efficient moisture resistance. Countless statues and monuments in city streets are now protected by Renaissance wax from weathering corrosion. Arms, armour, steel and kitchen equipment of brass and copper in historic house museums, are kept bright and corrosion-free. When thinly applied and rubbed out to full lustre, the wax film is (and remains) glass-clear, with no discoloration either of the wax or the underlying surface. Renaissance wax is free from acids (pH neutral) and will not damage even sensitive materials. For example, photographs for exhibition or of historic value are waxed to protect the image from natural acidity of hand or environmental pollutants. The wax does not stain or darken even white paper. On furniture or wood carvings the wax delicately enhances grain or 'flame' patterns. It protects existing finishes such as fresh polish and it can be applied directly to sanded, unfinished hardwoods without need of sealers. Waxing is the last process in hand-made furniture and in the creation of wood, stone or metal sculptures. But it is the first aspect to be appreciated by hand and eye. The clarity and lustre of Renaissance wax makes an instant visual appeal. The silk-smooth touch of the matured wax film gives added pleasure, compared to the 'drag' of fingers leaving trails across the softer beeswax polishes. No matter how often the wax is used there is no loss of clarity, so that fine surface detail is never obscured. Repeated use of the wax deepens the lustre, reflecting more light from surfaces and making them more 'lively'. The manufacturers receive hundreds of enquiries asking if Renaissance wax is suitable for a specific surface or project. Invariably the answer is 'yes'. Its unique qualities make it ideal for protecting all surfaces from environmental attack or handling. The wax is, for example, replacing the preservative oiling of arms and armour in museums. The wax film is hard and dry and does not, like oil, remain sticky and attract atmospheric acidity. Exhibits are more comfortable to handle. Greasy dirt on waxed surfaces is easily removed by gentle use of a soft rag dampened with paraffin, alternatively, warm water with a little liquid soap. Neither cleaning method will harm the wax film. should surface repair or restoration be needed, Renaissance wax can be completely removed by rubbing with white spirit (a petroleum distillate). In professional fine-art conservation all treatments must be 'reversible' without damage to the original surface, to allow use of better technique. New ideas for using the wax continually reach the manufacturers. For instance, a model ship maker reported that dipping small-diameter wood drills into the wax almost eliminated drill breakage when working on hardwoods. Steel tools in the workshop no longer suffered from rusting. Paper kites and model aeroplanes can be water-proofed. The wax reduces 'drag' on model boats racing in the water. Leathershoes of all colours are protected positively with a brilliant shine by use of Renaissance wax. There is no 'fall-out' of coloured waxes from brushes to spoil clothes. Ladies' leather/ plastic handbags are proofed against rain. Marble is easily stained by contact with coloured liquids. The stains can quickly sink into the surface, which will usually need re-grinding (expensive and inconvenient) to eliminate marks. Makers and restorers of marble-top furniture appreciate the highly protective qualities of Renaissance wax to avoid staining. Makers/ restorers of violins, 'eellos and guitars use the wax to protect the varnish from players' natural acid contact and also from the sticky powdery residue on bow hair. On the motorcar, Renaissance produces a great shine with an unrivalled service life in all weathers. It can be used successfully on all surfaces: coachwork paint, bright metals, rubber or plastic seals. Inside the car the wax is perfect everywhere, especially on leather upholstery. The wax's micro-crystalline structure has amazing plasticity. The dry film 'flows' under pressure and will not fracture when the seat is sat on. When applied correctly - in thin layers - the wax is extremely economical in use, so that its initial cost compares very favourably with ordinary commercial waxes. In room temperature, with the can firmly capped, Renaissance has a shelf life of many years. This is due mainly to the extra-ordinary solvent-retention power of the wax. It will remain in perfect condition long after other waxes hace caked hard and become useless.

Uttoxeter in the Civil War (Book.04) Published by Caliver Books; 1st edition (2015) -978-1-85818-695-5 264mm x 200mm paperback 114 pages (4 in full colour) About the book:- Dave Cooper’s interesting and fact filled book is the result of years of skillful research and interpretation of surviving manuscripts and other sources in relation to Uttoxeter. The ultra-rare church wardens' and parish constables' Civil War period financial account extracts, combined with other contemporary manuscripts, provide rich evidence of the impact of the conflict and its aftermath on the town. In the past many Civil War historians have suggested most of the population in England was unaffected and that the conflict only affected commanders, politicians, battles and the politics in London. In fact recent local studies have revealed that the daily lives of ordinary civilians were actually profoundly troubled and disrupted, trade and local economies too were severely affected and local communities were damaged and traumatized by the conflict. This book sets out to determine what disruptions were true for Uttoxeter and the extent to which the English Civil War intruded into the daily lives of the local community. The effect of local garrisons and marching armies on the town's economy including trade and excise, taxation, free-quarter, the appropriation of horses and even baptism, marriage and burials. The research details Uttoxeter's religious life, including damage to St Mary's church, religious controversy and revolutionary doctrines; and the social effect of the conflict on the local inhabitants in terms of widows, maimed soldiers, petitions for compensation, displaced persons/ homelessness, country fairs, wakes and fetes. If you are interested in the social effects and impact of the English Civil War in general and more specifically, the traumatic and often bewildering events on the population of a quiet rural market town such as Uttoxeter in this case, this book will be an invaluable resource. Furthermore, if you want to research your local town, this book will help show you where to find factual information. About the author:- Although Dave Cooper has worked in construction management and estimation for many years, he has had a life-long interest in history, particularly in relation to the English Civil War and the military history of his home county of Staffordshire. Dave has extensively researched these subjects before, during and since his studies at Keele University, with a number of books to his credit as a result. Not only are his interests academic, but practical as well, with memberships of several local military history interest groups, a leading light in the raising of several commemorative monuments in Staffordshire, regular stalling out at military interest collectors fairs in the Midlands and an active membership of Sir John Gell’s Regiment of the Sealed Knot English Civil War re-enactment Society. He is therefore ideally situated to write this book that will be of interest not only to the local residents of Uttoxeter past and present, but also to all those intrigued by what it would have been like to have been a resident in a Midland’s market town such as Uttoxeter during the turbulent English Civil War years.

VERY RARE Steyr Kropatschek M1886 Obsolete Calibre 8mm Rifle And Bayonet. (AD.02c) VERY RARE Steyr Kropatschek M1886 obsolete calibre 8mm Rifle and bayonet in steel scabbard. Both the barrel and action share the same serial number of "KK791". The bore is extremely good. The associated bayonet's approximate overall length is 24.1/2 in with a 18.1/2in blade. The double fullered blade is to a shiny finish with a few old finger-mark rust patches in places and a crown over "WG" to one side of the blade at the hilt. The cross-guard pommel steel rivets to the worn double sided wooden grips and pommel are to a grey paina with old rust darkened discolouration. The muzzle release button works well. The scabbard is of sheet-rolled steel, tubular semi-oval in shape and with a ball finial. The scabbard is also to a pleasing grey/ brown patina with a couple of dings to wards the ball finial. The frog latch is also marked with a crown over "WG" and the throat of the bayonet is stamped with the number "Q 607". VULPEX LIQUID SOAP - 1 LITRE PACKS VULPEX LIQUID SOAP Potassium methyl cyclohexyl oleate. Non-acid...non-foaming...non-corrosive...non-hazardous...germicidal Vulpex liquid soap ia a safe cleaner for practically everything from paper to stone. Since its introduction in 1970, its extraordinary versatility has made Vulpex a popular and indispensable medium in all branches of professional restoration and conservation of fine-art objects and historic property. It has been used with eminent success in the safe and controllable cleaning of materials ranging from feathers, costumery, leather, carpets and furniture to oil paintings, armour, precious metals, shells, marble and stone. Vulpex attacks and emulsifies dirt, fats, fatty oils, mineral oils, waxws and hydrocarbons with great speed and efficiency. The dirty emulsions are remarkably stable, thus easily disposable. Micro-fine cracks harbouring dirt are subject to a deep-cleansing action rarely achieved with normal commercial cleaners. Compared with harsh, acid-based cleaners, alkaline Vulpex is not harmful to health or property. A final rinse or wipe with clean water neutralises the surface, leaving behind nothing to create future conservation problems. When the job demands a non-aqueous cleaning system (for example when removing grime from leather), Vulpex uniquely can blend with mineral spirit (paint thinners) instead of water. Vulpex is supplied as a dense concentrate and must be diluted before use. For normal aqueous cleaning, one part Vulpex to six or seven parts cold tap water (by volume) is sufficient. More water can be added if the soiling is light. As a spirit soap, one part Vulpex in ten or twenty parts solvent will be found effective. Since Vulpex is a highly effective de-greasant, hands should be protected against the loss of natural oils by wearing gloves or the subsequent use of lanolin hand-cream. Eyes should be protected from splashes.

WW1 German Granatenwerfer-16 High Explosive Spigot Mortar Bomb (524) WW1 German Granatenwerfer-16 High Explosive Spigot Mortar Bomb. Little in the way of pitting and corrosion. Re-painted green and in very good overall condition The mortar bomb is deeply segmented to fragment and would originally have weighed about 1.9kg. This spigot mortar bomb would have originally have contained a 400g (14oz) high explosive charge and had a range of about 300 metres (330 yards). This mortar bomb has a hollow centre shaft that would locate on to a simple rod containing a firing pin. The mortar bomb contained a modified standard service round with its projectile removed that provided the launch energy, caused by the firing pin on the firing rod striking the cartridge primer. The gunner in the usual 2-man crew would in practice set the spigot rod to the correct elevation/ angle for the required range, push down the cocking collar to cock the firing pin, load a fuse into the mortar bomb (impact fuses that were very sensitive) slide the grenade down the spigot rod, remove the safety pin and the mortar bomb was then fired by a lanyard pull.
WW1 German Iron Cross, Second Class (Misc.10) WW1 German Iron Cross, Second Class, maker marked ring, ribbon a little tatty, medal worn, other than that in good overall condition commensurate with age. The Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz abbreviated EK) was a military decoration in the Kingdom of Prussia, and later in the German Empire (1871–1918) and Nazi Germany (1939–1945). Established by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia and first awarded on 10 March 1813 during the Napoleonic Wars (EK 1813). The recommissioned Iron Cross was also awarded during the Franco-Prussian War (EK 1870), World War I (EK 1914), and World War II (EK 1939, re-introduced with a swastika added in the center). The Iron Cross was normally a military decoration only. The design of the cross symbol was black with a white or silver outline and derived from the cross pattée occasionally used by the Teutonic Order from the 13th century. The black cross patty was also used as the symbol of the German Army from 1871 to March/April 1918, when it was replaced by the bar cross.
